Tech giants seek Hong Kong alternative after US blocks under-sea cable.

Tech giants like Google are looking at alternatives to Hong Kong as a global data hub after U.S. officials overturned a trans-pacific internet link plan to the territory.

Established channels are being worked on to get cable landing licenses for undersea cables and shall work in line with decisions of designated agencies where they operate.

Opposition has been signalled from the end of the U.S. Department of Justice due to concerns regarding Dr Peng Telecom & Media Group Co and the cable’s direct link that it would provide to Hong Kong.

Subsea cables carry 99% of the world’s data traffic, forming the backbone of the internet.
