Anyone wishing to purchase the sedan or SUV will have to wait until the facelifted versions arrive next year.
Australian Tesla buyers will not be able to get their hands on a new Model S or Model X until 2022, with the brand’s online configurator revealing deliveries of both models are on hold until next year.
The electric sedan and SUV had their 2022 facelifts revealed in January 2021, but customers wanting to purchase the current, pre-facelift model have missed the cutoff and will now have to wait until 2022.
Customers looking to place an order for either model on the Tesla Australia online configurator will now be quoted an estimated delivery date of 2022.
Those unwilling to wait are offered the option of purchasing a vehicle from Tesla’s existing inventory, but according to the official inventory page, there is no stock for either car currently available in any Australian state.
This effectively means Australian shoppers will only have immediate access to one model in Tesla’s line-up in 2021: the brand’s most affordable car, the Model 3.
The Model 3, which is priced from $66,900 before on-road costs, Luxury Car Tax, and order and delivery fees, currently has an estimated delivery time of 9-12 weeks.
The 2022 updates to the Model S and Model X include an all-new interior design with a slim rectangular, ‘yoke’-style steering wheel and a new 17-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Additionally, the powertrain options have been altered across both models, with Performance variants removed in favour of the ‘high-performance’ Plaid offerings – local pricing for which can be seen here.
Production of the 2022 Tesla Model S and X will commence in the first quarter of 2021, but a more specific delivery timing than “2022” is yet to be provided.
