As if conspiracy theories about the threats of AI were not enough, people are actually thinking about building an actual real-life Jurassic Park. Max Hodak, the cofounder of Neuralink, known for their famous brain-computer interface thinks that we have the technology available to make it happen.
Neuralink link recently made headlines claiming that their interface would revolutionize gaming. Nevertheless, Hodak made a tweet on Saturday claiming that “We could probably build Jurassic Park if we wanted to,” and that it “Wouldn’t be genetically authentic dinosaurs but. Maybe 15 years of breeding + engineering to get super exotic novel species”.

Making our own exotic species sounds like something exciting but should we actually do it? There are 5 movies out there that say otherwise. Well, we are already genetically enhancing chickens so who’s to stop scientists from doing this. Hodak then went on to back his tweet claiming that in this era of mass extinction, increasing the number of species would increase the biodiversity of the planet, countering extinction.
He said that “Biodiversity (antifragility) is definitely valuable; conservation is important and makes sense. But why do we stop there? Why don’t we more intentionally try to generate novel diversity?”. There is also a concept of De-extinction, which basically means resurrecting extinct species. But the problem with that is our ecosystem would no longer support those species.
Well if they actually make a park, I know I am not going there. Especially with my luck, crap will hit the fan on the exact day I arrive at the park.
