2023 BYD Atto 4 Tesla Polestar 2

BYD has shown off its next model, the Seal or Atto 4, ahead of an official debut at the Beijing motor show later this month and an Australian arrival in early 2023.

As a stylish small sedan, the Atto 4 will compete against the likes of the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2, but likely come in closer in price to the Hyundai Ioniq Electric.

Borrowing cues from the Ocean-X concept from 2021, the latest BYD model sports a sharp and angular front end, as well as recessed door handles.

The black-accenting on the lower bumper, B- and C-pillars and side skirts also break up the bodywork, while the rear features a prominent diffuser and connected tail-lights.

Powertrain details are yet to be revealed, but leaked documentation reveal two options – a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version, and a top-spec, dual-motor grade with all-wheel-drive.

The former is tipped to be available in two tunes, either 150kW or 230kW, while the latter combines a 160kW/230kW front and rear motor for a zero-to-100km/h run in 3.8 seconds

The leaked specs also show a driving range of up to 700km thanks to an 800-volt battery, though this will be variant specific.

The leak also reveals the Atto 4’s dimensions, with it measuring 4800mm long, 1875mm wide, 1460mm tall and with a 2920mm wheelbase – making it slightly larger than the Tesla Model 3 (4694mm long, 1933mm wide, 1443mm tall and with a 2875mm wheelbase).

Of course, details are yet to be officially confirmed, but the Beijing motor show is just weeks away.
