iPhone 14 Trial Production Reportedly Underway: What We Know
Apple’s manufacturing partners have reportedly started trial production of the iPhone 14. The device is on schedule to be launched this fall.
Apple‘s iPhone 14 has reportedly reached the trial production stage as the company counts down to the official launch this fall. The iPhone 14 lineup is expected to be launched later this year as an upgrade over the iPhone 13-series that is currently the company’s flagship smartphone range. Many details about the upcoming devices have already been leaked, but more information is expected to surface in the coming weeks and months.
Over the past several weeks, a steady stream of leaks and rumors has seemingly revealed quite a bit of information about the iPhone 14. According to rumors, there might not be an iPhone 14 mini this year, and instead, the four devices in the lineup will reportedly include the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Pro, the iPhone 14 Max and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. What’s more, Apple might be doing away with the notch in at least some of the models.
Apple’s manufacturing partners Foxconn and Luxshare have reportedly started trial production of the iPhone 14. As part of the process, the companies are looking to build a limited number of units to iron out any remaining issues before proceeding with mass production. The report comes from Taiwanese publication United Daily News, which also claims that Luxshare will manufacture the base iPhone 14, while the two ‘Pro’ models, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, will be built by Foxconn. There’s no other news regarding the lineup itself, but like every year, further information about the devices will likely get leaked in the run-up to the launch.
The IPhone 14 Is On Schedule
Trial production for iPhones generally starts in the second half of February, so the timeline is on schedule this time around as well. However, whether there will be any issues due to the ongoing ship shortage remains to be seen. According to the report, once the trial stage is complete, the vendors are expected to share the bill of materials (BoM) with Apple and perform all the quality checks to ensure that everything is in order for mass production. It also means that the product’s final design has been locked in and is unlikely to change, barring something unforeseen.
According to rumors, the iPhone 14 lineup will include a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. In terms of design, Apple is expected to get rid of the notch in some of the models. Instead, the devices will reportedly ship with dual punch-hole cutouts to house Face ID components and the front-facing camera. One of the cutouts is said to be circular, while the other is said to be oblong or pill-shaped. In addition, all the devices in Apple‘s iPhone 14 lineup are expected to be powered by the A16 Bionic chip, built on either a three or four-nanometer process for faster performance and higher power efficiency.
