Facebook Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg Highlights India’s Role In Future Of Metaverse
Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg who drove millions to Facebook a decade ago now wants the digital world to embrace his metaverse ambitions.
The tech mogul believes India would play a central role in the adoption of metaverse tech.Speaking at the second edition of Fuel for India 2021, Zuckerberg was in conversation with Vishal Shah, the Vice President of Meta.
According to Zuckerberg, the metaverse would be “an internet where you feel like you’re there and you’re present with people and in other places.”
The metaverse and India’s place in it
With the mission to blur the seeming line between the physical and the digital using immersive AR/VR tech like futuristic glasses, an individual would be able to coexist on the digital sphere – performing tasks that the current understanding of internet offers. Imagine Instagram, but on an immersive platform.
During the event, Mark Zuckerberg highlighted India’s growth in the online gaming sector over the last few years, while promising investments in education and commerce platforms like Unacademy and Meesho. “We want to continue to partner in all of these areas as we accelerate the development of the fundamental technologies, the social platforms, and creative tools that are going to be necessary to bring the metaverse to life,” The Indian Express quoted Zuckerberg as saying.
The Fuel for India 2021 event highlighted how different businesses and communities are collaborating on Facebook’s pool of platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp to drive changes in industry.
Speaking at the event, Meta CEO Zuckerberg also added that the metaverse isn’t going to be built by a single company or a group of companies but by creators around the world. “We’re thinking about what the next generation is going to look like in terms of where these creators and developers are going to come from who are going to build the foundation of the metaverse. I think it’s obvious India is going to be a huge part of that,” he added.
