Crossover GV80 demonstrates the new style of the Korean brand.
Genesis, the premium brand of South Korean Hyundai Motor, introduced the brand’s first crossover – the seven-seater GV80. Model shown at a special event in Seoul.
The production model is based on the GV80 Concept, presented at the New York Auto Show in 2017. The letter V in the model name means versatility (versatility, versatility), the company explained.
Seven-seater crossover GV80 will be the fourth model in the Genesis line after the sedans G70, G80 and G90. The interior and exterior of the car were jointly developed by Genesis design studios in South Korea, the USA and Germany.
The car interior uses the idea of the beauty of open space, one of the characteristic elements of South Korean architecture, the company explained. The number of physical switches is minimized, narrow vents are located on the front console, the 14.5-inch screen of the multimedia system is raised high on the panel.
The gearbox is controlled by a round selector on the central panel.
GV80 is created on a new rear-wheel drive platform, its body is made of steel and aluminum (door panels, hood and trunk door)
The front optics – four narrow headlights in two rows (Quad Lamp) – will become the Genesis corporate identity, said Luc Donkerwolke, head of design at Hyundai Motor Group, who called the style of the new crossover “athletic elegance”.
On the Korean market, the model for the first time for Genesis will be equipped with a 3.0 liter in-line six-cylinder diesel engine rated at 278 liters. from. Also in the engine lineup will be two turbocharged gasoline engines.
The company will begin accepting orders for the GV80 in South Korea in January 2020.
