French supermarket giant Carrefour is now working with Uber Eats to ease the pressure on lockdown deliveries.

Uber Eats Carrefour

Trying to find a supermarket delivery slot has become an everyday problem across many homes in the U.K. and Europe, but French supermarket giant, Carrefour, has come up with a new solution–to team up with Uber Eats to deliver basic essentials within 30 minutes.

Reuters reported that the trial will begin on April 6 and take place across 15 Carrefour stores in the Paris region. Customers can order on the Uber Eats application or on the Uber Eats website. They will also be able to order by phone between the hours of 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. They will be able to order cleaning products as well as household groceries.

According to Les Echos, France is the first country to trial such an arrangement with Uber Eats. All deliveries will comply with France’s health and safety food delivery guidelines during the pandemic and Uber Eats will remove delivery charges–usually €3.50 ($3.8)–on all Carrefour deliveries. Aside from France, Uber Eats operates in three of Carrefour’s large markets, Brazil, Spain and Italy. With the latter two on heavier lockdowns than France, there is potential to expand the idea to the other two markets.

It is not the first such delivery arrangement between supermarkets and food delivery companies during the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak. techradar reported a similar arrangement between Marks and Spencer’s shops found on BP forecourts and Deliveroo in the U.K. to deliver basic food items to customers.
