  • A look at the director of the movie and the author of the book’s previous biopic

World’s richest man Elon Musk has been the subject of documentaries and was recently profiled in a biography by Walter Isaacson.

For the first time, Musk will be the subject of a full length biopic.

What Happened: The Isaacson biography, for which the author had exclusive access to Musk, will be turned into a biopic from entertainment company A24.

Directing the movie will be Darren Aronofsky, according to a report from Variety.

The news comes after a heated battle to secure the rights to the book by studios and filmmakers, sources told Variety.

Aronofsky is a well-known director with some of his biggest movies being “Requiem for a Dream,” “Black Swan,” “Mother!,” “The Fountain,” “The Wrestler” and “The Whale.”

“The Whale,” which was released in 2022, was critically praised and saw actor Brendan Fraser win a Best Actor Academy Award. Aronofsky was nominated for a Best Director Academy Award for “Black Swan.”

Aronofsky’s directorial work has been praised and is known for having unique filmmaking styles.

No details on casting or a release date have been announced. The biopic will use the Isaacson book as the source material for a screenplay.

It will be interesting to see how much of Musk’s life is covered in the movie given his roles with Tesla Inc TSLA, SpaceX and other companies and the 2022 acquisition of social media Twitter, now known as X.

Why It’s Important: News of the Musk biopic doesn’t come as a huge surprise given the author’s past work on a biopic of a legendary businessman.

Isaacson authored “Steve Jobs” in 2011, which was turned into a biopic. The movie starred Michael Fassbender in the title role and was released in 2015, four years after Jobs’ death.

The film was nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress (Kate Winslet) Academy Awards. “Steve Jobs” grossed $17.8 million domestically and $34.4 million worldwide.

An interesting note is that the “Steve Jobs” film focused on 14 years of Jobs’s life, with the years 1984 to 1998 covered, leading to the unveiling of the iMac from Apple.

Musk has been featured in several movies and television shows in cameo roles, including “Iron Man 2” and has voiced himself on episodes of “The Simpsons,” and “South Park.”
