Elon Musk’s Tesla progresses at the diner

 

Construction of Tesla Inc. TSLA’s unique “Supercharger” concept, featuring a drive-in movie theater and diner, is steadily progressing in Los Angeles.

The electric vehicle giant broke ground on the project just a few months ago, in late September, reported Teslarati. The project has been the subject of much discussion for several years.

Recent images shared by user Ed Howard reveal that the development at the 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard site is well underway. The site is slated to be outfitted with 32 charging stalls, a pair of movie screens, and a rooftop restaurant.

Despite its early stages, visible progress can be observed in the initial structures. Workers and construction equipment are now a common sight at the location.

Tesla first introduced plans for this drive-in charging station concept last year and received permission to commence construction in August. The company was also granted a trademark from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in 2021 to extend the scope of its “T” logo to include restaurant services.

CEO Elon Musk has been contemplating the idea of a 1950s-style diner and drive-in theater Supercharger in LA since 2018. Initially proposed for Santa Monica, the project has since moved to the West Hollywood location.

This development comes hot on the heels of Tesla surpassing 2,000 active Supercharger stations in the U.S., and precedes plans for other automakers to gain access to the Supercharger network in the coming years.
