Elon Musk applauds Subaru’s decision
Elon Musk, Tesla TSLA CEO, has expressed his approval of Subaru’s FUJHY decision to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) starting in 2025.
What Happened: Automotive enthusiast and Tesla investor Sawyer Merritt shared the press release by Subaru where it announced the adoption of NACS at the beginning of 2025. The decision is part of Subaru’s larger goal of “aiming for 50 percent of total global sales to be BEVs [Battery Electric Vehicles in 2030” and to contribute to the achievement of carbon neutrality.
“Customers of NACS-compatible Subaru BEVs will gain access to more than 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America, significantly enhancing charging convenience,” a part of the statement read.
Musk responded to Merritt’s post with a “Cool.”
Subaru’s decision to follow the NACS marks a significant step towards standardization in the EV charging infrastructure.

Why It Matters: This move by Subaru signals a shift in the automotive industry towards adopting universal charging standards. Such a shift could ease the transition for car owners to electric vehicles, as concerns over charging compatibility and accessibility are among the key barriers to EV adoption.
Adopting Tesla’s charging standard by other automakers could also solidify Tesla’s position as a leader in the EV market and charging infrastructure.
